Suspect Dies After Officer-Involved Shooting in Des Moines 2025-02-07A narcotics investigation in Des Moines on Thursday night ended with at least one officer firing shots at a 43-year-old suspect, who later died. The suspect, who was a passenger in a car under surveillance as part of an ongoing methamphetamine trafficking investigation, allegedly took out a gun and began firing at police. Both officers responded by firing their handguns, and the suspect died after receiving care at a hospital. The driver of the car, J. Stewart, 52, was charged with felony controlled substance violation. The officers involved have been placed on administrative assignment, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called to assist in the investigation. Fennimore Man Arrested After Disturbance at Church 2025-02-07A disturbance at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fennimore, Wisconsin led to the arrest of A. Peterson, 38, on Thursday. Peterson was causing a scene and demanding to speak with a priest, and when deputies arrived, he was found to be agitated and shouting profanities. He refused to identify himself and threw metal candle holders, nearly striking a deputy. Despite commands to comply, Peterson resisted arrest, leading to the use of a taser by deputies. He was eventually handcuffed after further resistance and suffered a head injury after falling from a raised area. He was taken to Grant Regional Health Center for treatment, and the Grant County District Attorney's Office is considering charges of disorderly conduct and resisting an officer. |
