Shooting Shooting Incident in Des Moines May Be Linked to Earlier Hit-and-Run 2025-07-06 Des Moines police believe the shooting incident may be associated with a hit-and-run crash that occurred at 2nd Avenue and Hull Avenue earlier Saturday evening. One person is hospitalized and another was arrested following a Saturday night shooting incident in the River Bend Neighborhood, the Des Moines Police Department said. Shortly before 9 p.m., DMPD said officers responded to the area of Ohio Street and University Avenue after a report of gunshots. 'Within moments,' authorities said officers had detained the suspect and recovered a handgun. One person injured by gunfire was transported to a local hospital, DMPD said. The investigation is ongoing. Pursuit Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends with Two Arrests in Des Moines 2025-07-06 The Des Moines Police Department is investigating after a pursuit ended with two people taken into custody Saturday evening. DMPD posted to X just before 7 p.m. to say that pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended in the area of 7th Street and Hickman Avenue. No ongoing danger is expected in the area, but officials said to expect an increased police presence as the scene is cleared. Shooting One Man Hospitalized, Two Women Assaulted in Des Moines Party Incident 2025-07-05 Des Moines police say one man is recovering in the hospital after a fight broke out at a holiday party. Investigators say officers responded to the 2000 block of Meadow Chase Lane for reports of a fight and gunshots being fired just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a crowd of more than 50 people. Police say they noticed many people a part of that crowd fighting. Shortly after arriving, some officers discovered a 41-year-old man with multiple gunshot injuries and quickly provided first aid. While this was happening, other officers worked to control the crowd. Medics with the Des Moines Fire Department arrived and took the patient to a local hospital. According to police, two other people were assaulted during the fight. They were treated for minor injuries. Four adults were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. A 16-year-old was also charged with disorderly conduct and was sent to Juvenile Courts. Investigators say witnesses did report that a shooting suspect left the area before police arrived. No arrests have been made related to the shooting at this time. Detectives with the Des Moines Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Section are investigating. |
