Iowa AG Sues Crypto ATM Operators for Scam Losses 2025-03-01Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has filed a lawsuit against the state's two largest cryptocurrency ATM operators, Bitcoin Depot and CoinFlip, for failing to protect users against scammers. The investigation found that hundreds of Iowans, mostly over the age of 60, had sent approximately $20.4 million through these ATMs in a less than 3-year period. The companies are accused of profiting off of scam victims through high transaction fees and deceiving Iowans about their refund policies. The attorney general is seeking to get Iowans their money back and force the companies to make significant changes. Suspected Ringleader of Texas Border Riot Arrested in Iowa 2025-03-01A suspected ringleader of the March border riot in Texas, where a mob of hundreds of migrants bum-rushed the wall, has been arrested in Iowa after seven months on the run. Venezuelan migrant Gabriel Enrique Angarita Carrasquero, 22, was wanted by the state of Texas for allegedly rioting and assaulting a soldier during the melee in El Paso. He was initially nabbed in the violence but released by federal authorities before state police could arrest him. Carrasquero was later found in Des Moines and arrested by state police during a traffic stop. He is now in state custody in Texas, facing charges related to the border riot. |
