Drug Trafficking Two Des Moines Men Sentenced for Fentanyl Distribution Conspiracy 2025-07-16 Two men from Des Moines, Ajang Malou Wour and Omar Mohamed Nurani, have received federal prison sentences for their roles in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy. Wour distributed over 60,000 pills and 40 ounces of powder, while Nurani frequently received pills from Wour and resold them. Despite a customer overdosing and dying after purchasing pills from Nurani, both men continued their illegal activities. Wour received a 12-year prison sentence, while Nurani was sentenced to 10 years. Homicide Suspect Arrested in Shooting of Father and Son in Southern Iowa 2025-07-16 A 51-year-old man named Robert Barrell is in custody after being accused of shooting a father and son in southern Iowa. According to the Appanoose County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to an address in rural Mystic late Tuesday night for reports of a shooting with multiple people injured. They found Randy Walker, 62, and Destry Walker, 36, each with injuries. Destry Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, while Randy Walker was airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital. Barrell was found hiding near a nearby motorcycle crash and has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Assault Suspect in Custody After Ramming Squad Car, Crashing into Hotel in Des Moines 2025-07-16 A man is in custody after Des Moines police say he rammed a squad car and fled from officers before crashing into a hotel. Police received multiple 911 calls about a person attempting to assault pedestrians in the 600 block of Robert D. Ray Drive, with one caller reporting the man entered a vehicle and attempted to run over pedestrians. The suspect rammed his vehicle into the squad car and fled at a high rate of speed, failing to yield to red lights and crashing into the outer wall of the Embassy Suites hotel.
