It is important to have acquaintances and friends at school because you are going to spend a good deal of time there over the next four years.

You might be commuting from a nearby place and may have some of your friends from high school still in your close circle, but that doesn't mean you cannot expand that circle and get out and meet some new people and become friends. Perhaps you do not know how to make friends. There is no internet article or YouTube tutorial video that will replace putting yourself out there and being social, so this may be a place you have always struggled. It's wise to get involved in clubs you are interested in and spend time in social settings that you are not overly uncomfortable in to help solidify a friend group that can be a steady presence in your life while in college.
