Des Moines Man Charged in Two Convenience Store Robberies 2024-11-22A Des Moines man named Thomas Frommelt, 50, has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and interference with official acts. He was arrested late Thursday night after allegedly robbing a Git N Go convenience store in the city's Easter Lake neighborhood. Frommelt reportedly threatened the clerk with a knife, took cigarettes and cash, and then fled on foot. Officers located him nearby and he ran from them, but was eventually tracked down and taken into custody after a K9 unit was called in to assist. Frommelt was treated for a K9 bite before being taken to the Polk County Jail. Investigators say he admitted to the robbery as well as another one that occurred on November 11th. State Senator from Des Moines Concedes After Recount 2024-11-22The Iowa Senate race in Des Moines has concluded with the incumbent, State Senator Nate Boulton, conceding the race to his Republican challenger, Mike Pike. The recount showed Pike leading by a narrow margin of just 44 votes. Pike, a political newcomer, is a plumber by trade. Boulton, an attorney, had been expected to compete for the position of Senate Minority Leader. Meanwhile, in the race for Iowa's 1st Congressional District, Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks has seen her lead over Democrat Christina Bohannan grow by 2 votes as recounts continue in that close race. Des Moines Police Investigate 15th Homicide of 2024 2024-11-22Des Moines Police are investigating the city's 15th homicide of 2024. Officers responded to an apartment in the River Bend neighborhood on Thursday night and found a 65-year-old man dead inside, with evidence of traumatic injuries.
