- E=mc2 (1905): On September 27, 1905, during his “miracle year,” Albert Einstein published a paper titled Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy-Content? In the paper, Einstein described the interchangeable nature of mass and energy, or what came to be known as E=mc2.
- The Tripartite Pact (1940): The Tripartite Pact was signed, forming the Axis Powers alliance between Germany, Italy, and Japan during World War II.
- Stockton and Darlington Railway (1825): The Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) was the first passenger railway to use steam trains to transport passengers. The company operated across north east England from 1825 to 1863. The S&DR's first line connected coal mines at Shildon in County Durham to Darlington.
