Des Moines Woman Sentenced in Neglect Case of 4-Month-Old 2024-10-31

A Des Moines woman, M., has been sentenced to three years of probation for an incident last year that left her 4-month-old child seriously injured. M. was initially charged with child endangerment and neglect or abandonment of a dependent person after authorities said the baby suffered rib fractures while in her care. She pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of neglect of a dependent. The baby's father, L., was also charged in the case and pleaded guilty to child endangerment, as well as a second case in which a 4-month-old died. L. admitted to killing 4-month-old K. W. in February 2023 and was sentenced to up to 60 years in prison for both cases.
