Over 10,000 refugees were set to arrive in the United States over the next few weeks, but an executive order from President Donald Trump temporarily halting the refugee resettlement program is putting those plans on pause. The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) - Des Moines, which helps refugees get settled in Central Iowa, is now shifting its focus to prioritize programs for refugees already in the state, as a total of 56 refugees who were supposed to arrive in Des Moines in the next month have had their flights canceled. Republican U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson and Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley have voiced their support for Trump's executive order.
