fraud Iowa Woman Accused of Stealing $400,000 Not Yet Charged 2025-08-01 The Iowa woman accused in a state audit of stealing close to $400,000 in taxpayer money between 2015 and 2022 has yet to be criminally charged in the case. The alleged embezzlement was uncovered in 2022 when a worker noticed one recipient of the funds didn't have a car but was claiming expenses for auto repairs. Children and Families of Iowa investigated further and then alerted Iowa Workforce Development to the potential issues, leading to a special investigation by the state auditor. The auditor's office has shared its findings with various law enforcement agencies, but no state or federal criminal charges have been filed so far. shooting Second Suspect Arrested in Des Moines Crime Spree 2025-08-01 A second man, 18-year-old Elijah G., has been arrested in connection with a series of crimes in Des Moines last weekend, including attempted vehicle thefts and a shooting that riddled a family's home and car with dozens of bullets.
