Des Moines Police Investigate Non-Random Shooting on Ingersoll Avenue 2024-10-03A shooting that injured four people on Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa, last week was not a random act of violence, according to police. Des Moines police arrived at the intersection of Ingersoll Avenue and 28th Street on Sept. 27 to find one man who had been shot and another man injured by debris or a gunshot ricochet. Shortly after, two additional victims arrived at a local hospital. Police say there is no evidence of any connection to any business on Ingersoll and that one or more victims were believed to be targeted. Des Moines police have released some images of the suspect and say gun violence is slightly up from last year. Sgt. Paul Parizek of the DMPD says the department needs to work on changing the mindset of people who think they need to carry guns when leaving their homes. Iowa Mayor Sentenced to Probation in Embezzlement Case 2024-10-02Several town officials in Armstrong, Iowa, including the mayor, were charged in an embezzlement case. Greg Buum, the mayor, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of tampering with records and misconduct in office. Buum's son-in-law, who was the town police chief, and three former city clerks were also charged for a range of misconduct that included bilking the town of thousands of dollars and destroying and falsifying records. All five people charged have pleaded guilty. Judge Jeffrey Neary sentenced Buum to a suspended three-year prison term, two years of probation, and more than $1,800 in fines, stating that a prison sentence for the 73-year-old Buum 'is just not in the cards.' Buum apologized in court and said it's time for him to enjoy his supportive family.
