Firearms Detected at Des Moines Airport Increase 2024-10-08Transportation Security Administration officers have stopped a total of 13 firearms at the Des Moines International Airport so far this year, a nearly doubled increase compared to 2023, officials said Tuesday. TSA officers detected seven handguns in Iowa's largest airport in 2023, officials said. In 2022, officers had detected 15 guns for the entire year. Dentist Convicted of Public Intoxication Awaits Dental Board Action 2024-10-08The Iowa dentist who was convicted in April of public intoxication after performing a root canal on a patient is still waiting for the Iowa Dental Board's final action in the case. Late last year, the Iowa Dental Board charged Paymun Bayati, 59, of Waterloo, with practicing dentistry in a manner that is harmful or detrimental to the public and with violating provisions of Iowa related to the practice of dentistry. The board alleged he posed an 'imminent threat' the public and suspended his license on an emergency basis. Des Moines County Joins Grant to Install License Plate Readers 2024-10-08Des Moines County joined with the Burlington Police Department to access a grant that will provide technology that will make it more difficult for perpetrators of crime elsewhere to seek refuge in the City of Burlington and Des Moines County. At the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday morning, Burlington Police Chief Adam Schaefer presented the board with an interlocal agreement to spend up to $14,819 of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant that will pay for the purchase and installation of license plate readers. |
