Des Moines man sentenced to 55 years for kidnapping former girlfriend 2025-01-11A Des Moines man pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and being a felon in possession of a weapon charges and was sentenced to up to 55 years in prison. Mure was armed with a handgun when he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home last September, according to prosecutors. He hit the woman in the head with the gun and forced her into a car before the woman was able to escape. Mure has three previous felony convictions, including weapons charges, and was convicted of vehicular homicide in 2016 for a crash that killed a 22-year-old passenger. 2nd man dies following early morning shooting in Des Moines 2025-01-11Authorities have ruled an early morning shooting in downtown Des Moines a double homicide after a second person died from gunshot wounds. A 29-year-old and a 34-year-old male were killed during a violent altercation that erupted around 2 a.m. Sunday near the Court Avenue entertainment district. Police first heard gunfire while on foot patrol and immediately responded. Witnesses told officers that the trio was engaged in a verbal argument before gunfire ensued. The DMPD said they recovered three firearms at the scene. Iowa Dental Board to license woman convicted of stealing $81,000 2025-01-11The Iowa Dental Board has agreed to license a woman recently convicted of stealing almost $81,000 from Iowa businesses. Danielle Kay Quandt, 30, of Davenport, is planning to submit to the board an application for a certificate of registration as an Iowa dental assistant once she completes examinations and education. Quandt pleaded guilty to first-degree theft in return for a recommended sentence of three years' probation. She was later given a 10-year suspended prison sentence, fined $1,370, and ordered to serve three years of probation. She was also ordered to pay $113,272 in restitution. |
