Des Moines Mother, Son Charged for Allegedly Stealing Packages 2025-01-19A Des Moines mother, Olga Delgado-Pineda, 49, and her son, Alexis Francisco Miranda, 28, have been charged with four counts of second-degree burglary in connection to an ongoing theft investigation. Between December 9, 2024, and January 13, 2025, the pair allegedly stole packages from apartment complexes in the Sherman Hill and Downtown neighborhoods, using Amazon door codes to illegally access the properties without consent. Investigators were able to identify the suspects after interviewing victims and witnesses and reviewing security footage. Des Moines Police Identify Officers Involved in Shooting 2025-01-18The Des Moines Police Department has identified the officers involved in a shooting incident where a police officer was shot by friendly fire and a suspect was killed during a domestic dispute investigation. Senior Police Officer Schneider, 37, was struck in the back of his shoulder and the bullet exited his chest, but he was discharged from the hospital and continues to recover at home. Police Officer Lampman, 23, was also involved in the shooting. The suspect, Weston Dean Derby, 45, of Bellevue, Nebraska, was shot by officers and died at the scene. The Iowa Department of Public Safety's Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident further. The robberies took place at a Walgreens location on E. University Ave., another Walgreens on University Ave., and a third location on Ingersoll Ave. A preliminary investigation indicates the robberies may be connected, and police have secured the scenes and increased their presence in the areas. |
