Man Arrested After Police Pursuit in Des Moines 2025-03-22A man is in police custody after fleeing from the Des Moines Police Department Friday afternoon. Law enforcement had been attempting to find and arrest 30-year-old G. who had an active felony arrest warrant for a February theft investigation. After refusing to stop for police, G. led officers on a 'lengthy pursuit' through Des Moines and into Warren County, before crashing his vehicle and fleeing on foot. He was later found hiding in brush and mud and put into custody without incident. G. faces charges including Eluding, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and Interference with official acts. Colfax Inn Cited for Numerous Health and Fire Safety Violations 2025-03-22State records indicate that on March 7, inspectors from the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals & Licensing, as well as the Colfax police chief and a representative of DIAL's Fire Safety Bureau, visited the two-story, 63-unit Colfax Inn near Interstate 80. Inspectors found numerous health and fire safety violations, including evidence of rodents, cockroaches, human waste and strong odors in multiple guest rooms. The hotel has a history of recurring violations, with its license suspended in 2024 and then reinstated when corrections were made. The hotel says it is working to correct the violations.
