Sexual Misconduct Former Dean of Students Charged with Sexual Exploitation and Child Pornography 2025-07-28 The former dean of students at Sun Prairie West High School, R. Gilkey-Meisegeier, has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography. He was arrested on Thursday in Madison, Wisconsin, and a Dane County court commissioner set his cash bail at $75,000. The investigation revealed that Gilkey-Meisegeier had sexual contact with a current female student and exchanged inappropriate messages and photographs with multiple students. The Sun Prairie Area School District terminated Gilkey-Meisegeier on June 9. Violent Crime Ottumwa Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Weekend Stabbing 2025-07-28 T. Shafer, a 29-year-old Ottumwa man, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man, M. Carlvin, over the weekend. Police responded to a stabbing on Steller Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Saturday and found Carlvin with multiple stab wounds. Carlvin was transported to a hospital and later transferred to a Des Moines hospital for further treatment. Shafer left the scene before the police arrived but was later located and arrested during a traffic stop. Shafer is also facing additional charges stemming from the traffic stop and is currently being held without bond at the Wapello County Jail. Missing Person Search Suspended for Man Missing After Falling into Des Moines River 2025-07-28 A 49-year-old man is missing after reportedly falling off a dock into the Des Moines River on Sunday morning. Emergency responders were called to the Prospect Park boat ramp shortly after 9 a.m. and the Des Moines Fire Department's Water Emergency Team searched the river with boats, sonar technology, and drones for over an hour, but were unable to find the missing man. The search had to be suspended due to the rapid water conditions and dangerous debris in the river. The search is expected to resume at a later time, and the investigation is ongoing. |
