Grand View Vikings Rally to Defeat Friends in NAIA Football Championship 2024-12-01

The No. 2-ranked Grand View University Vikings outscored the Friends 14-0 in the second half to escape with a 21-17 win in the NAIA Football Championship Series. The Falcons led 17-7 at halftime, but the Vikings scored on their first two possessions of the second half to take the lead. The Falcon defense made several key plays, including forcing and recovering two fumbles, but the Vikings held on for the win to advance to the NAIA FCS quarterfinal round. The Falcons, under third-year head coach T. Harrison, finish the season with an 11-2 overall record, the most wins in the modern era for the program.

Shooting Incident at Arkansas Mall 2024-11-30

Authorities in Arkansas are investigating a Black Friday shooting at the Park Plaza Mall in Little Rock. Officials said that gunshots rang out just before 2 p.m. local time. Two injured individuals were rushed to the hospital, and their injuries were not life-threatening. Investigators believe that the shooting was an isolated incident in which two individuals caused a disturbance and exchanged gunfire. The Little Rock Police Chief and Mayor condemned the incident and vowed to hold the shooters accountable.

Former Nurse Practitioner Pleads Guilty to Sex Trafficking 2024-11-30

C. Markley, a former nurse practitioner and business owner from Ames, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of sex trafficking by fraud and coercion, admitting to exploiting 14 victims over nearly two decades. Between 2004 and 2023, Markley deceived young men by fabricating elaborate lies to coerce them into engaging in commercial sex acts, falsely claiming to be conducting medical or massage certifications, classwork, third-party research, or product development. Markley created fraudulent contracts and consent forms, manipulated victims, and used hidden cameras to record the encounters, including with minor male children, without their knowledge. Markley faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment for each count.
