Trump Administration Moves to Dismiss Lawsuits Against Iowa, Oklahoma Immigration Laws 2025-03-15

The Trump administration has moved to dismiss lawsuits against Iowa and Oklahoma brought by the Biden administration's Department of Justice, which challenged the states' immigration laws making it a crime for someone to be in the state if they are in the U.S. illegally. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird called the dismissal 'a major victory for Iowans across the state,' saying that when the Biden administration failed to secure the borders, Iowa stepped up. The Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice group, however, said they remain committed to working to keep the law from being enforced in Iowa.

Iowa Attorney Suspended for Drunken Driving, Controversial Social Media Post 2025-03-14

Attorney Jennifer Miralles has received a law license suspension from Iowa after her third OWI in Nebraska. Miralles, a former employee of the Iowa Office of State Public Defender, failed to inform Iowa authorities of her arrest and conviction. The Iowa Supreme Court suspended her license for three months, noting her failure to update regulators was 'dishonest by omission.' The court also referenced a controversial social media post Miralles made in 2024 expressing disappointment that a shooter had 'missed' in an attempt on then-President Donald Trump's life.
