Crime Indianola Man Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder of Former Girlfriend 2025-06-23 An Indianola man, Jordan Mangum, 42, and his girlfriend Jessica Wheeler, 36, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and violently assaulting Mangum's former girlfriend in 2023. The couple abducted the victim from her Des Moines home, took her to their home in Indianola, and then to an unknown location where she was strangled, had her throat slashed, and was repeatedly run over by their van. Mangum pleaded guilty to attempted murder, kidnapping, assault, and domestic abuse charges, and faces up to 45 years in prison. Wheeler previously pleaded guilty to similar charges and faces a potential sentence of 35 years.
