Crime Survivor of Violent Kidnapping Reacts to Perpetrator's Guilty Plea 2025-06-30 The survivor of a violent kidnapping incident in Iowa reacts to the guilty plea of an Indianola man who kidnapped and assaulted her more than a year and a half ago. The victim, Luna Cox, was taken from her home, bound with duct tape, and assaulted. She is still scarred from the incident and her young son suffers from PTSD. The perpetrator, Jordan Blake Mangum, pleaded guilty to multiple charges and faces at least 22 1/2 years before being eligible for parole, with a potential sentence of up to 45 years. His accomplice, Jessica Ann Marie Wheeler, previously pleaded guilty to similar charges and faces a mandatory minimum of 17 1/2 years, with a potential sentence of 35 years. Crime U.S. Marshals Service Conducts Fugitive Operation, Making 52 Arrests 2025-06-30 U.S. marshals from the southern and northern districts of Iowa and the central district of Illinois teamed up in May with law enforcement agencies and the Iowa Department of Corrections to conduct a five-week fugitive operation, resulting in 52 arrests of people wanted on outstanding warrants. The operation, called 'Operation River Run', targeted fugitives with pending criminal charges for homicide, guns, drugs, assaults, sex offenses and other crimes of violence. Most of the arrests were made in Scott County and Rock Island County, Illinois, with other arrests between Sioux City and Chicago. Crime Catholic Charities Receives Grant to Update Domestic Violence Shelter 2025-06-30 The Catholic Charities Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program in Iowa recently received a $5,000 grant from the Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa to purchase new beds and bedding for the program's emergency shelter. The shelter provides a safe place for women, men and children to begin healing from their trauma, and the new beds will allow for enhanced comfort for the shelter guests. The program served 221 individuals last year as they healed physically and mentally from the effects of violence in their lives. |
