shooting Police Shooting Leaves One Dead in Des Moines 2025-01-03 The Des Moines Police Department is investigating a shooting involving an officer on the city's south side on Thursday evening. Officers went to a home to do a wanted check on someone believed to be in the home with felony warrants. Two officers fired their weapons and one person is deceased inside the home. Investigators are still working to learn what led to the officers firing their weapons. The scene is secure and the investigation is ongoing, with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisting. MORE CRIME ALERTS crime Des Moines Metro Sees 22 Homicides in 2024 2025-01-02 The Des Moines metro saw 22 homicides in 2024, with the large majority - 17 - committed in Des Moines. This is three more than the previous year but still short of 2022's high of 23 slayings.
